Reward-based voltage scheduling for dynamic-priority hard real-time systems

چکیده
Reward-based scheduling has been investigated for flexible applications in which an approximate but timely result is acceptable. Meanwhile, significant research efforts have been made on voltage scheduling which exploits the tradeoff between the processor speed and the energy consumption. In this paper, we address the combined scheduling problem of maximizing the total reward of hard real-time systems with a given energy budget. We present an optimal off-line algorithm and an efficient on-line algorithm for jobs with their own release-times/deadlines under Earliest-Deadline-First (EDF) scheduling. Experimental results show that the solution computed by the on-line algorithm is no more than 14% worse than the theoretical optimal solution obtained by the optimal off-line algorithm.

Reward-Based Voltage Scheduling for Fixed-Priority Hard Real-Time Systems
We address the combined scheduling problem of maximizing the total reward of fixed-priority hard real-time systems with a given energy budget. We present a fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS) for the off-line job-level scheduling problem and an efficient heuristic for the task-level scheduling problem. We also describe an online algorithm which is effective in leveraging the exec...

متن کاملPower-aware fixed priority scheduling for sporadic tasks in hard real-time systems
In this paper, we consider the generalized power model in which the focus is the dynamic power and the static power, and we study the problem of the canonical sporadic task scheduling based on the ratemonotonic (RM) scheme. Moreover, we combine with the dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) and dynamic power management (DPM). We present a static low power sporadic tasks scheduling algorithm (SSTLPSA), ...
متن کاملFixed-priority scheduling to reduce both the dynamic and leakage energy on variable voltage processors
With ever-scaling VLSI technology, the leakage is becoming an increasingly serious concern when addressing the power consumption problem for next-generation real-time embedded systems. Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) is efficient in reducing the dynamic energy consumption of a CMOS processor. However, methods that employ DVS without considering the leakage current are quickly becoming less effect...
متن کاملDynamic Voltage Scaling for Mixed Task Systems in Priority-Driven Systems
We describe dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) algorithms for real-time systems with both periodic and aperiodic tasks. Although many DVS algorithms have been developed for real-time systems with periodic tasks, none of them can be used for the system with both periodic and aperiodic tasks because of arbitrary temporal behaviors of aperiodic tasks. We propose an off-line DVS algorithm and online DVS...
